The Cabin
Rooted structure
Nestled in the verdant landscape of Greenwich , this garden cabin serves as a multifunctional auxiliary space for a family. The cabin is perched dramatically on the very edge of a cliff-like slope that backs onto an ancient river. This unique location offers the feeling of being immersed in a forest, with a serene connection to nature.
Constructed from exposed Glulam A-frames with all stainless steel connections, the cabin celebrates the beauty of its own structure. The timber frame provides both warmth and rhythm, and the honest expression of its joints reflects the meticulous level of detail considered early in the design process. The result is a tactile, light-filled space that feels well rooted in its natural setting and evokes a sense of wonder.

The cabin’s structure is crafted from glulam beams, lending it a modern and robust aesthetic while maintaining sustainability. Internally, the walls and ceilings showcase exposed birch plywood, eliminating the need for painted finishes and embracing a raw, natural texture that complements the surrounding environment.
The Cabin celebrates structure as warmth - a rhythmic timber framework that feels both grounded and light. The result is a tactile, enduring space that connects deeply to its landscape, embodying our commitment to thoughtful, sustainable architecture.
A minimal glass curtain wall spans the rear of the cabin, allowing unobstructed views of the lush greenery and enhancing the sense of being in the treetops. This integration of glass and wood creates a space that feels open yet grounded, blending seamlessly with its surroundings.
Designed to cater to a range of activities, the cabin functions as a yoga studio, study, playroom, or general hangout spot, particularly for young adults. A small tap and facilities for tea-making enhance its utility and a cast-in-situ concrete worktop adds a tactile, sculptural element while offering practical durability.
