The Pleat
Celebrating raw materials
The Pleat is a bold reworking of a Victorian home in Hackney for a young family, with a design shaped simultaneously by the act of cooking and the structural requirements of the existing home.
Angular forms define the new rear extension, unfolding the plan onto the garden. Steelwork is left exposed inside, setting the tone for an interior that embraces clarity and contrast.

Minimal-pitched glazing washes light along the spine of the house, linking front and rear. Handmade terrazzo floors, exposed steelwork, and stainless-steel appliances define a robust kitchen that marks a new chapter in this Victorian home.
Reworking a Victorian home in Hackney for a young family, it articulates a language of raw materials both inside and out. Exposed steel, charred timber, and salvaged brickwork define spaces shaped by a deep passion for cooking. Creating a hardy, honest environment that celebrates craft and everyday life.
Charred timber and reclaimed brick define the new extension, creating a contemporary twist on the geometry of the original rear addition to the house. Sharp, angular form contrasts with the warmth of the existing brickwork, bringing clarity and craft to the very edge of the home.
Across the rest of the house, playful tones and refined detailing introduce softness and colour, balancing the raw material palette of the ground floor with moments of calm and character.
