Boulevard
Crafted for learning
This new extension to a South West London primary school introduces a classroom, elevated play terrace and a bridge link that consolidates circulation with the neighbouring nursery. Developed around principles of function, play, spatial adaptability and transformation, the scheme prioritises durability and low-maintenance tactility to create a robust, light-filled environment calibrated for early-years learning.

Internally, the structural strategy is expressed rather than concealed: a timber frame paired with exposed steel members establishes a clear tectonic rhythm, with suspended linear lighting integrated between structural lines. Pre-finished board linings provide a resilient and adaptable internal envelope, capable of accommodating the everyday artefacts of play, from Blu Tack to tape and crayons, without compromising longevity.
We believe that honest materials can shape the way we build. At The Boulevard, this ethos is expressed through a predominantly timber frame paired with minimal steel, creating a raw, tactile environment. Externally, UK-grown Western Red Cedar cladding grounds the building within its setting, providing warmth and long term resilience. The result is a robust, low-maintenance building where sustainable material choices support a bright, adaptable and user-centred place for learning.
Bespoke joinery elements offer individual storage for each child, embedding organisation into daily routines, while generous glazing frames views to the playground, reinforcing visual connectivity between learning spaces and the wider school landscape.
The wider scheme seeks to strengthen the relationship between the Grade II listed primary school and the neighbouring nursery, creating a more connected early-years community. A new bridge link physically unites the two, enabling resources, facilities and outdoor spaces to be shared more actively.
